Hambach Mine in North Rhine-Westphalia, was the largest mine in Germany, producing approximately 39.69 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Hambach Mine is owned by RWE AG, and is due to operate until 2043. The second largest mine with approximately 37.73 mmtpa of ROM, was the Garzweiler Mine located in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Garzweiler Mine is owned by RWE AG, and is due to operate until 2046. Inden Mine located in North Rhine-Westphalia was the third-largest mine, the Welzow-Sud Mine located in Brandenburg was the fourth-largest mine, and the Nochten Mine located in Saxony-Anhalt was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 20.01 mmtpa, 16.3 mmtpa and 16.1 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Inden Mine is owned by RWE AG which is due to operate until 2031, the Welzow-Sud Mine is owned by Energeticky a Prumyslovy Holding AS;PPF Investments, Ltd. and the Nochten Mine is owned by PPF Investments, Ltd.;Energeticky a Prumyslovy Holding AS.
